Sunday Short: #LikeAGirl?

*sigh*

I promise to keep this short. I'm trying really hard, y'all.

Number one: What has this actually got to do with tampons and pads? I mean, really? Even the mysterious blue liquid being poured into a sponge by a woman in white made more sense than this.

Number two: Once again, I feel like I live in an alternate reality. For me, doing things like a girl has never been an insult. Being told I did something like a BOY was horrible, however. Those little girls DID run/throw/fight like girls and I don't think the ad made a big enough point of saying that that's okay. Being feminine is not a bad thing, no matter how you define it. Those big dummies that were originally demonstrating "like a girl" were trying to get a union scale acting job, not really act like girls.

Number two and a half: Yes, a girl's confidence does plummet during puberty. For the record, so does a boy's. This has just as much to do with suddenly being inside sexual Frankenbodies and the stresses of coming of age and rapidly transitioning through entire life stages as it does with media portrayals of women and men, IMO. If Always really wants to try to change that, they might look at manufacturing products that don't come in gigantic attention-grabbing crinkly plastic wrappers and are less irritating, more environmentally and skin friendly, and overall more absorbent and effective--and then market them on these points. But nope, let's make cute girly packaging and hire a bunch of folks to "act like girls". That will fix everything.

Number three: I just feel bored, preached at, and happy I use the Diva Cup. But I understand that this speaks to some folks. Just not me.

Does this speak to you? Empower you? If so, please break it down for me in the comments, because I feel like a #confusedwoman.
